This CD-ROM program is designed for the physician and sonographer who wish to elevate ultrasound interpretation skills and assess their level of knowledge in recognizing common and unusual carotid pathology.

The CD-Rom begins with a review of normal carotid characteristics and diagnostic criteria using duplex/color flow imaging techniques. Fourteen carotid case studies (with brief history and physical information) are presented. A minimum of 3 months experience performing and/or interpreting carotid duplex examinations is recommended before completing this program.

After viewing this presentation, the participant should be able to:

*Demonstrate the application of Doppler criteria to internal carotid artery stenosis.

*Characterize various types of plaque.

*Discuss diagnostic parameters for evaluation of common carotid, external carotid, and inominate artery stenosis.

*Describe normal and abnormal spectral Doppler waveform characteristics.

*State suggestions for avoiding diagnosis pitfalls.
